Oct. 23, 2007 -- About 110,000 magnetic game pieces sold with Cars-themed backpacks are being recalled because of?a potentially deadly flaw.
Small magnets inside the four game pieces that were sold with the backpack?can fall out of their plastic enclosure.
The backpack's theme is based on the animated movie Cars.
Magnets found by young children can be swallowed or aspirated (inhaled). If more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract each other and cause intestinal perforation or blockage, which can be fatal.
No injuries have been reported, but there have been three reports of a magnet that became loose, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The CPSC urges consumers to do the following:
The recall doesn't include the backpack, but rather?the magnetic game pieces sold with the backpack (model number CA28904TG).
The backpacks were imported from China by Global Design Concepts Inc. of New York.
They were sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide from February 2007 through September 2007 for about $13 with four sealed game pieces that contain magnets.
The game pieces included a red plastic car, a blue plastic car, and two red and black plastic disks that have "GAS," "OIL," and "SERVICE" printed in red letters on the black perimeter of the disks.
"Warning: Choking Hazard-Small Parts. Not for children under 3 years" is printed on the backpack's hang tag. "Disney Presents a PIXAR film" is printed on the gray vinyl front of the backpack.
