Nov. 9, 2009 -- Maclaren USA and the Consumer Product Safety Commission today announced a voluntary recall of "about a million" Maclaren baby strollers because of the risk of fingertip amputation.

Maclaren USA has gotten 15 reports of children placing their finger in the stroller's hinge mechanism, resulting in 12 reports of fingertip amputations in the U.S., according to a Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) news release.

The stroller's hinge mechanism poses a fingertip amputation and cut hazard to children when the stroller is being unfolded or opened.

The recall includes all Maclaren single and double umbrella strollers. The word "Maclaren" is printed on the stroller. Here are the affected models:

The recalled Maclaren strollers were sold at Babies "R" Us, Target, and other retailers nationwide from 1999 through November 2009. Prices ranged from $100 to $360.

"Consumers should immediately stop using these recalled strollers and contact Maclaren USA to receive a free repair kit," states the CPSC news release. Contact Maclaren USA at 877-688-2326 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern time Monday through Friday.

The CPSC web site has photos of the recalled strollers.
